The Internet is developing at a fast pace. In the last few years blogs and then social book-marking became a rage, and to confess to you honestly I still haven’t gotten the hang of how to use either of these two for marketing purposes. However, I am not such an old geezer after all, because I really am into Myspace.com.
Myspace.com is a tremendously interactive medium which is most frequented by teenagers who like to share their photos and exchange messages with each other, and with pop music bands, who set up online presences that attract thousands of new listeners. In the last year Myspace has become one of the most visited web destinations around. (Alexa currently ranks it as the sixth most visited site.).
If you are not a teenager and you are not the lead singer in a rock band, is there any chance that Myspace could be useful to you? Large businesses such as Jack in the Box, Nike and Walmart have Myspace.com presences, all kinds of advocacy organizations have Myspace profiles, and even local real estate firms are opening up sites on Myspace. This is in a sign that there must be something in it for a wide variety of businesses and organizations. |

MySpace is an online community which offers members the tools they need to create a website for other members of the community to view. MySpace also hosts these websites and provides search features which enables visitors to find information about particular members or members who have certain hobbies.
Opening a MySpace Account
The process of opening a MySpace account is fairly simple and takes place almost instantly. Members who wish to join the online community only have to provide some basic information and agree to the terms of service to be granted membership. The basic information which is required to request membership is a full name, a valid email address and a password containing alpha and numeric characters. After supplying this information and checking a box which states you agree to the terms of service your application process is complete. You are then sent an email with a welcome letter and a link which will activate your account. You only need to click on this link and enter your email address and password to activate your account.
Understanding the Terms of Service
Reading and agreeing to the terms of service is required for membership to the MySpace community but members should review these terms regularly and should be sure they understand all of the terms. This is important because violation of these terms could result in the member’s account being deleted or legal action being taken against the individual. Some of the highlights of the terms of service are:
* Members must be at least 14 years of age and must report their age accurately.
* Members are responsible for keeping their password secret and reporting suspected cases of others using their password.
* Commercial use of MySpace is prohibited unless prior authorization from MySpace is received.
* Users must not publish any copyrighted materials on their website without permission.
* Members may not post content which is prohibited by the terms of service. |

When it comes to the latest and greatest on the internet, the new rage is MySpace. This is a site where people from all over the world can connect with each other via the web. As opposed to an instant messaging program, MySpace allows the user to post pictures as well as detailed information.
But just like anything else on the internet, MySpace comes along with safety problems as well. No matter how many people try to stop internet predators they keep showing up time and time again. And this is especially true when it comes to MySpace.
The best way to avoid MySpace predators is by never getting too involved with anybody until you know exactly what they are about. In other words, don’t give anybody your contact information unless you know for 100% positive that they are trustworthy. Remember, if nobody has your contact information they can never get a hold of you. And to take this a step further, if somebody is harassing you through the MySpace site, contact the administrators right away and turn them onto the problem. If this gets you nowhere and you feel in danger, there is nothing wrong with contacting your local police department.
Overall, avoid MySpace predators is not something that should be hard to do. Even though MySpace is different than other forms of internet communication, you should still be able to use the same basic knowledge to avoid any problems. As someone who spends an obscene amount of time researching, playing and "working" on MySpace [and loving every minute of it I might add... ;-) ] I have made myself into an expert and an authority on the process of customizing or "pimping" profiles as my countless thousands on MySpace will vouch for me.
Before going deep on HOW to pimp MySpace, I'd first like to address WHY one should pimp his or her MySpace profile.
There are really two answers to this question...
The first is my expert opinion as a marketing specialist - "branding and differentiation."
As MySpace continues to grow at a frantic pace (there are currently over 108 million profiles on MySpace and growing at about 26,000 new ones daily) - it becomes increasingly difficult for an individual or an online business seeking to establish a presence on MySpace to "stand out from the crowd." A well pimped out profile allows for a unique user experience that separates and differentiates a profile from the millions of other "plain-vanilla", non-pimped profiles.
A customized profile allows for using corporate colors and logos as well as controlling the end-user experience to be consistent with one's overall brand identity.
Ok... having said that.
My second answer is more personal - simply "Because it looks cool and because you can."
So... having cleared that up. |
